Worthing Excelsior Open 25

Ben Crick writes…

The Worthing Excelsior Open 25 was held  19 May 2013 on  GS25/45 as the scheduled G25/53 is still unusable due to road works. I was one of two East Grinstead Club riders on the start sheet but did not see Ted Boorman so assume he was DNS. Having rode this for the first time a few weeks ago I was hoping for better than the long 65 I did before and warmer conditions. This time it was 10 degrees and not 1 and the wind was very light and from the north which meant I had no excuses.

I started off steadily and got the worst of the headwind riding out of the way in the first 4.5 Miles. The next section was south down the A29 and while it rolls  a bit I managed to get up to and average speed of 24MPH (good for me). Onto the A281 it gets a bit tougher until you rejoin the A24 for a quick loop North and then south again down to the Southwater roundabout. I was on for a PB so long as I could keep pushing back up to the end and deal with the long drag to the Shell garage.

I crossed the line in 1:02:56 which was 88 secs better than my PB so happy days Smile
