I didn’t get round to writing a report about last weeks event – a 25 on
the local ‘fast ‘ course, because there were only two riders from our
club riding with a mediocre performance from yours truly, I thought you
might be more enthralled by Ben and Stefano’s epic 100mile Fred Whitton
Challenge in the Lake District.
However, the outcome of ’round five’ on the G25/53 was even less
spectacular with most riders going two minutes slower than the previous
wekend.
With only one EGCC representitive, it was a foregone conclusion that
another club was going to get the teamaward so thatleft a high overall
placing as the only option for the day.
Unfortunatly the nagging north-
east wind that has been with us for a number of weeks still hadn’t
abaited on the morning. In fact, there was a near gale force conditions
out on the dual-carrigeway, which made top end speeds nigh-on
impossible in places.
With the onset of the usual back-ache towards 3/4 distance, I found
myself lacking vital power on the return from Southwater round-a-bout which was the hardest part of the course, and I’m convinced this is
where I lost vital seconds. As a result, EGCC had to settle for a 3rd
place with 55.18 to the winners 54.35. Second place went to old
adversary Keith Coffey or the Bec CC in 54.56.
