After my summer holiday in Brittany and with 500km ridden I returned ready for my 1st 25 mile TT of the season on the bank holiday Monday. Having seen the weather forecast wasn’t looking too good for the race I decided to forgo the pre race rest day and join the Sunday club run.
On Monday morning I got up still feeling a little tired from the hard ride the day before but glad to see that although the ground was damp there wasn’t any rain so I set off. On my way to the Westerley CC’s event on the Bentley by-pass course the drizzle started and steadily increased to rain by the time I had reached the HQ. Many had also seen the weather forecast and decided the race wasn’t for them and so in the end only 24 out of the 68 on the start sheet started.
To begin it was only drizzle but it steadily increased until the rain was so hard that I could barley see where I was going. I was reminded of a similar occasion on the same course when I rode a PB so undaunted I rode on. As the torrential rain continued I was regretting my decision to ride but by now I was drenched so thought I might as well finish. Having finally crossed the line the rain eased of and by the time I got back to the HQ had stopped.
I was pleased to see my time at 1:03:06 which, under the circumstances I wasn’t too disappointed with as it put me 9th overall.
The event was won by:
1st Peter Stuart 56:23 Look Mum No Hands!
2nd Mark Brambleby 57:54 Northover Vets
3rd Craig Mclean 58:16 Sigmasport.co.uk
I hope for better weather for the SCCU 25 on the 7th.
