Waller Pain Hill Climb 14-6-15
When I saw this on the Oxted CC website, I thought it looked fun and entered immediately. This has been running a few years now as part of the Caterham festival, and is open to anyone that wants to have a go at riding up the small bumpy lane linking Caterham town centre to Caterham on the hill. I hadn’t even realised the road existed until two weeks ago, apparently the Catford hill climb was originally held on this very lane.
I got a good start in a slightly too easy gear, but as the road ramped up, I couldn’t get enough traction and my tyres kept skipping, maybe 110psi was too much.. excuses aside, I passed a blur of blue that I assume was a group of Oxted riders cheering me on the flatter last bit, and got out of the saddle for the last push to the line, where my chain came off…
All in all, a good fun, relaxed event for all the family. 16th place overall. Next year I know I can go faster, I just need to let a bit of air out of my tires.
