Once again the club’s early season leg stretcher was well attended with 66 entries.
It seems almost de rigueur for the weather to be cold in March and this year was no exception. It was a crisp morning with a briskish NW wind though the sun was out for most of the time.
Richard set off number 1, followed by Ben, Andy, Mike and Alan Starsmeare, a returning club member.
Conditions were better than expected, and everyone recorded improvements over the times from the 2005 event.
Richard Woodward – 1:08:55. A MASSIVE 7:17 improvement from 2005!
Ben Hardisty – 1:18:18
Andy Seltzer – 1:05:01. Another improvement on last year, which ended early with a puncture.
Mike Anton – 1:05:00. A 56sec improvement on 2005, though I’m sure it was a long ’04!
Alan Starsmeare 1:16:08
1st overall was Tim Mardell of V C Etoile with an excellent 57:32.
2nd was James Dear of In Gear with 58:35
3rd went to Dave Shepherd of Liphook Cycles with 59:20
4th Richard Hallett, Sydenham Whs 59.49
5th Ishmael Burdeau, Brighton Mitre 1.00.38
6th Mike Thorogood, Sydenham Whs 1.00.49
1st lady was Jo Dipple of Amphibians 2 Tri with 1:33:16
Unfortunately we missed out on the team prize this year, which went to Sydenham Wheelers.
Many thanks to Steve Dennis who did an excellent job yesterday with the full support of club members. It’s good to see the Club providing a first class race organisation and yet still allow all those members who wished to ride to do so.
