Steve wins East Sussex CA 50

Mike Anton writes…..

Having just been pipped at the post last week on the SCA event, Steve won the ESCA 50 in commanding style.

With Mike Coyle a DNS, Steve’s only other real challenger was Keith Coffey of BEC CC, who eventually came second.

The weather was cooler than last week and this certainly helped with the grinding up and down the A22 (relatively speaking).

Speaking with others who rode the SCA event, a lot of people showed considerable improvement, some by nearly 5 minutes.

Kevin in particular had a storming ride, improving by 4:34 from last week! These sorts of times should hold him in good steed for next week’s Nice Ironman triathlon.

I should have pulled my finger out as I only improved by 1:27. Still our times were good enough to bag us the Fred Marsh Memorial Trophy for the fastest ESCA affiliated club.

Steve also gets the L Reich and Son Trophy for fastest rider.

Ted thought that he didn’t have a good morning but still clocked a respectable time. Unfortunately Alan DNF’d after about 30 miles.

1st Steve Dennis EGCC 1:51:25

2nd Keith Coffey BEC CC 1:52:40

3rd Dominic Hill BEC CC 1:55:27

4th Mark Winton Lewes Wanderers 1:56:22

5th Ben Ward San Fairy Ann 1:56:44

Fastest lady was Hanna Mayhew of BEC CC with 2:21:36.

Fastest team were BECC and Harry Featherstone of Eastbourne Rovers, was fastest Vet on Std with a + time of probably 2 or 3 hours!

Mike Anton 1:59:45

Kevin Bashford 2:06:11

Ted Boorman 2:11:51

Alan Starsmeare DNF
