[or the ‘Wheelsuckers and Shutters Club’]
The ‘Crits’ were run off again over three Thursday evenings in June over the familiar 50km course near Laughton with some fine organisation from Lewes Wanderers and even 2 motorcycle marshalls this year, sincere thanks go to Chris Hough.
The racing as ever was fast and furious – maybe a little too fast for my aging legs!
I had the company of ‘The Chairman’ Andy Seltzer for the first two rounds this year and I think he rather enjoyed it with a lone break in the first round and a fine 3rd place in the 2nd round.
The Bayeux Landscape boys were out in force making the pace with some fine attacking riding from Shaun Reed and Jason Salter, unfortunately it was ruined when one particular member refused to ‘work’ in the 2nd round break resorting to cynical wheelsucking tactics then sprinting to win – who says cheats never prosper!
On the final night I was the lone EGCC rider and didn’t really have the legs to make any attacks but managed to get round to contest the sprint finishing 7th [or was it 8th] place at the finish. A good accident free series enjoyed by all.
Andy and I are going to have a go at the Guildford Town Centre Crit on Wednesday the 9th July, a tight circuit with a cobbled climb – bring it on!
