Another Scenic ride from Dave “I don’t make the hills I just use them” Hudson; I rode with Paul Outhwaite from the PBP Hailsham Massive. I met Angela at Wych Cross on her penultimate ride in a Randonneur Round the Year series and she was flying.
A pretty benign loop out to Lewes then up over Ashdown Forest for the first beautiful view feed stop; amazing; I’ve lived near there for 9 years and never found this car park. A rip-torting ride back down for Tim with camera (smile!) before the lumpy section out towards Tonbridge. Wearing our PBP jerseys it was tempting to follow the “Circuit of Kent ” riders and hack them off but we kept to the route to Maidstone which is horrible horrible and busy.
Shortly after was Boxley which nestled under a large impenetrable and very high wall of chalk; no way to get over there we thought but of course being an El Supremo ride…
Having found Bexley and Boxley hills is he also going to surprise us with Buxley Bixley and Baxley Hills too? A bonus El Supremo feed stop at the M2 services which was far nicer than the thoroughly depressing Moto services. Very lumpy as per usual to WoW (which was suprisingly empty, has there been a big bike ride recently?)
The return to Hailsham via Brightling, I think most Southern Audaxers know that bit!
A nice autumn ride to ease me back into long distances after nearly a month off the bike; and the last but one of Dave’s monthly Round the Year 200s which have proved very popular and a good way of easing many off us into the rigorous PBP training schedule.
