‘0’ dear!
To round up the racing season I thought it worth another ‘tilt’ at the H25/2 in Buckinghamshire. After the rain of the VTTA event on the same course a few weeks ago the day was fine and calm if not a bit chilly at around 4 deg C!
Richard Woodward and Brian Phillips were also on the start sheet looking to end the season with a bang!
Soon into my stride [53 x 11] some 200 metres after the start I quickly realised just how cold it was, but things warmed up a little as I crossed the Thames near Henley and up the other side perhaps not moving as quickly as I did last year on the same course – sometimes even though there appears to be no wind it can be like riding through glue!
So, out along the A4 and round the turn at Sonning. A tad easier, keeping a big gear turning back to Maidenhead, before the last 5 miles on dual carriageway. I came home in a 1.00.23 best ride of the season but a ‘far cry’ from the ‘58’ of last year. Richard, still trying to get under the hour again came close with 1.00.57.Brian as usual did a fine ride to finish 55.04.
The event was won by Barry Charlton 51.14 beating new BBAR Champ Nik Bowdler [51.53] into 3rd place.
So that’s it for 2008 some highs, some lows, my thanks to coach Kevin Humphries for keeping an old bloke focused and [mainly] out of the pub.
Here’s to 2009!
