First winter club run

Martin Malins writes…

A good turnout for the first ride; 8 riders met at the new (or is it old?) meeting place in King St East Grinstead; we were soon heading out to Turners Hill at a blistering pace before re-grouping outside The Crown (where the excellent beer festival has been going on all week).

Thence the traditional route along to the Cowdray before diverting down to Staplefield and picking up the Mid Sussex Hilly route through Colwood, where we had lost Graham Marek and Ted.

The pace picked up through Wineham and Hurstpierpoint where I used the chance to climb a few more hills along Underhill Lane before meeting back for coffee and cinnamon toast at the Ditchling cafe (where we went on my first ever club run in 1998).

From there Steve Elms (over from Switzerland on a flying visit) went back to join Steve Dennis at the SCA lunch in Hassocks whilst Richard W Paul W and myself re-traced to Sharpthorne via Highbrook where we bade farewell.

A good preparatory ride for next week’s (same distance ) ESCA reliability trial.
