ESCA Hardriders

I’m not known for my love of early season ‘Hillys’ for three reasons:
1. Overcast often wet and cold uninspiring days
2. Early starts
3. They go up hill too much for my ‘huge carcass’
So as the song goes ‘two outta three ain’t bad’.

For the ESCA this year we had a late start
– first man off 10am, the sun came out to warm a beautiful spring day, but unfortunately there were still the ‘uppy bits’.

Four Grinstead riders faced the timekeeper for the course based on Bodle Street Green over 15.06 undulating miles, with Ruth Harris a ‘first timer’ lining up with ‘old hands’ Alan Starsmeare, Richard Woodward and Paul Winkley.

Ruth won ‘Fastest Lady’ in a time of 1.07 33 with Alan 49.43, Richard 46.44 and Winkley 46.19. The event was won by Jon Sharples of ‘In Gear Racing Shambles’ in a shade over 39 minutes.

Not a bad days sport although I did see a couple of people [no names, no clubs!] being ill after the finish. The speed I went past them must have made them sick!
