Ride bikes. Have fun. Feel good.

ESCA Diamond Jubilee event – Dennis does it again

Grinstead had a very good day today with Steve winning the event, Angie winning the ladies and Steve, Andy and Kevin taking the Vets team prize.

A strong field of 70 entrants saw competitors from numerous Sussex clubs and visitors from Kent Cycles RC, who took the overall team prize.

However the award for long distance entrants must have gone to us with Steve Blackmore and Steve Elms over from Italy and Switzerland. Mr Elms even went to the trouble to bring his folding bike to compete on.

The course was a one off route centred round Hailsham, taking in the A22, A27, Pevensey Levels, Wartling and Herstmonceaux.

The two laps were helped with a brisk westerly wind, which saw some high average speeds on the A27. The run over the Levels was quite a bit bumpier and the undulations of the A271 were enough to remind people that this was a sporting course.
