The ESCA 50 on the G50/89 was to be my 2nd ever 50, the 1st being the week before. Now with a better idea of how to pace myself I was hoping for a better result and I set of in overcast but good weather.
This however was not to last as a couple of miles from the turn at Boship the rain started. Heading north again the rain stopped and by the second turn I was dry again and wondering if I was in for the same again. I was wrong. The rain had mover northward and was torrential so that it was impossible to see properly. With the roads awash I felt rather nervous as now it was impossible to see the potholes.
Having gingerly negotiated the Boship roundabout I headed home soaking wet. By the finish I have caught 6 other riders and only been caught by two so I was still optimistic for an improved time on last week. I managed a 2:10:06, a 1:13 improvement 🙂
Kevin Bashford also rode still nursing his injuries from the previous week to come in with a time of 2:09:14. The event was won by Mark Winton of Lewis Wanderers in a time of 1:54:38 that was a pb for him and being 4 minutes faster that his previous best.
