Mr Dennis writes…
Well, I guess you can’t win everything! Steve Dennis was knocked off top
spot for the second time in a row this weekend when he was beaten by a minute
and 22 seconds in the Epsom CC 25 mile promotion at Broadbridge Heath.
Off no 100 in a field of 120, he held top spot until 17-year-old Alex Dowsett,
off no.110, scorched across the line in 52min 20seconds. Dowsett, of Essex
based Glendene CC, is an up and coming yongster who has just beaten the national
junior 25 miles record with a 50min ride.
East Grinstead CC was also represented in the solo catagory by Kevin Bashford
(riding a new Zipp disc wheel) who clocked 1hr 4min 25secs, and Ted Boorman
(riding a 20 year old Alan!), 1hr 1min 45secs.
We also had two teams in the 2-up catagory. Mike Anton paired up with new
dad Ben Hardisty to battle against wind and rain to finish in 1hr 4min 25secs.
Foreign visitor Steve Blackmore, over from Italia for the weekend, paired
with his big brother Paul to produce a respectable 58min 32secs. Steve admitted
to being beaten to a pulp by his brother, but put it down to a lack of time-trialling
miles over the last 9 years!
The winner of the 2-up event was P.Jones & M.Green
of Crawley CC in 54:32.
