Eastbourne Rovers CC 25

Steve Dennis writes…

A damp morning greeted us once again for another jaunt back and forth along
the A22 between Maresfield and the Boship roundabout. It was a shame about
the weather really because the organiser had done a really superb job at
promoting the event that had attracted 108 riders – the biggest field so
far this year.

Anyway, EGCC provided four riders on the start list, of whom Ted Boorman
and Ange Nainby thought better of it and were DNS. This left Kevin Bashford
and Steve Dennis to do their stuff, to which Kevin, off at no 12, returned
with a time of 1:2:28. Enough to secure 28th place.

Steve Dennis, off an
hour and a quarter later and riding a new bike for the first time, grovelled
past the timekeeper into a stiff head-wind (that seemed to appear from nowhere!)
in a time of 54:13. This time he was pipped by his life-long rival, VC Etoile
rider Mike Coyle by 13secs, but we were all put in our place by race winner
and multi-national champion Micheel Hutchinson, who strolled around in 53:02.
