East Surrey RC hardriders TT

Steve Dennis and Ted Boorman were the only EGCC riders to enter the
East Surrey Road Clubs’ 43rd promotion of their annual hilly time trial
around the lanes south of Dorking.

The 30 mile route went out to the
A25 via Reigate heath, along to Dorking and down the A24 to Horsham
where it turned east briefly before heading north, up Hurst hill to
Rusper then through Newdigate, Parkgate and back to Leigh to complete
the circuit.

The pace was set early on by South London’s Tim Stevens with a time of
1hr11mins and 8secs, shortly followed up by Kingston’s Andrew Bye with
1:09:48. Ex-professional rider and EGCC life member Sean Yates,
currently riding for Uckfield-based In-Gear RT, stormed home in 1:08:
15, confirming a return to form by beating younger brother Christian by
nearly 3 mins.

Off no. 50, Steve Dennis started steady, wary of the
stiff headwind along the A24 section that was to be the downfall of
many. He caught Ted Boorman at Holmwood ( who apparently got to the
start with 3 seconds to go ) and got blown about all the way to
Horsham, climbed the hill OK and did the last 5 miles in 9 minutes
flat.
He clocked 1:09:29 for eventual 3rd place overall.

Ted finished
in 1:28:17, with yet another puncture a mile from the finish.
Overall winner was in-form Pete Tadros of In-Gear RT in1:07:51,
leading his team to a very convincing team win.
