Dennis wins SCCU 10

Mike Anton writes…

Steve Dennis won both the 10 and 25 mile events run by Southern Counties Cycling Union last Saturday and Sunday.

His winning times of 23:22 and 58:29 meant that he has now won the event three times since 1995, the last being in 2002.

The Saturday afternoon 10 featured a revised course round Oakwoodhill, Ockley and Forest Green. Opinions differed as to whether it was better than the previous course though everyone agreed that the wind and rain were not welcome.

Richard Woodward was the first Grinnie and recorded 27:54, a 1:19 improvement from 2005. I went next with a 25:56, finishing in light rain. It was raining quite heavily when Steve off but that didn’t deter him putting in his winning ride.

1st Steve Dennis 23:22
2nd Keith Coffey 23:53
3rd Steve Emmerson 23:56

1st lady was Charlotte Callesen 28:27 and Bob Stapley was fastest vet on standard with 27:04
