Dennis Wins Hillclimb and Series

Steve Dennis rounded off the East Grinstead Cycling Club evening time trial series with victory in the end-of-season hillclimb. The short, sharp event near Weirwood reservoir is the shortest event of the year at around 1.5 miles, but despite that is one of the hardest with no time to relax and is uphill all the way.

Dennis took overall victory with 158 points over the course of the summer, from Mike Anton’s 104. Despite Mike not being present, his second place was not under threat as Paul Blackmore took his total up to 85. Dennis also won the veterans competition for over 40s with a 96 points, while Ted Boorman was second on 67 and Andy Seltzer third with 60. Mike Anton won the senior competition for under 40s on 86 points, with Paul Blackmore second on 61 points and Matt Willis third on 59.

Paul Blackmore was second on the night, from Andy Seltzer, a mere two seconds back. Paul Harris made a rare visit to steal fourth from an impressive Rob Dickson, hitting form as the season ends. Ben Hardisty took the final overall point for sixth
