Alan MacInnes, Steve Elms, Paul & Steven Blackmore, Chris Yates (EGCC) and Conal Yates (In Gear) were joined by Michele Bartoli and two of his friends to compete in the annual 8-up team time trial.
Following Brian Phillip’s sad accident in last years race the team (of 9) were last off of the 172 teams taking part, to ride in Brian’s memory. It was an emotional occasion with Brian’s wife Clare and family were also there following the team. The organisers were extremely kind throughout the weekend and Michele Bartoli was very generous in his support before, during and after the event.
Steve Dennis who rode last year was chief sherpa due to a broken hand (although went strangely missing when tyre pumping was required) and Mike Anton was on hand to record some awesome pictures.
The team lunched and trained with Sean Yates, Brian’s close friend on Saturday and dined with Michele Bartoli and the organisers on Sunday evening to celebrate. In the end a very good weekend and a great memorial to Brian.
For the record the team finished the 35kms in 39 mins 4 secs, averaging 47.6 kmph to finish in 21st place. The winning team (MAX Team) recorded 35.48 at an average of 51.9kmph!
