My first go on this circuit and what a good one it is. 41.59 miles of flat with a fair bit of rolling thrown in, described as a ‘sporting’ course. We were blessed with perhaps the best conditions of the year so far, blue skies and little wind, a bit chilly for the early starters but under the sunshine we soon warmed up.
The course starts in Handcross and heads out towards Cowfold, so it is more or less downhill for the first few miles, but from then on it levels out (with some ups and downs), taking in Partridge Green, Bramber, Henfield, then back to Cowfold finally taking you in the reverse direction back to the finish in Handcross, the last few miles therefore being a good test.
I should have remembered to go through the appropriate mechanical checklist before I started, as halfway round the course near Bramber I could feel a rocking motion in my saddle which grew steadily worse. I ended up riding on ‘the rivet’ in order to keep the saddle in place, where fortunately it remained.
Not what I was hoping for in terms of a time but a really cracking ride, can recommend.
