Blackmore takes close finish

Paul Blackmore won the penultimate round of the East Grinstead Cycling Club’s evening time trial series on tuesday the 16th of August in what was one of the closest top-three finishes of the year. First, second and third (taken by guest rider Steve Price and Brian Phillips respectively) were separated by a mere twenty seconds.

While Phillips won on his only other outing of the year so far, he could do no better than third this time out. He was, however, almost two minutes ahead of fourth placed man Ted Boorman. Andy Seltzer took fifth ahead of Richard Woodward who put in his best ride ever on the Horne course – it was also the first time he has broken the 26 minute barrier.

With just one ten mile TT to go and the hillclimb, most of the points positions have been settled. Second place in both the veterans and the seniors is still close, with Paul Blackmore and Matt Willis now level on 55 points for the seniors, and Andy Seltzer only three points behind Ted Boorman for the veterans. Steve Dennis, absent on tuesday, is assured of the overall series and veterans prize while Mike Anton is unreachable for the seniors, and also likely to take second overall.
