Annual Dinner & Presentation

The 58th annual dinner presentation was held at the Ark village hall in Turners Hill and was well attended with members past and present to celebrate a strong year of racing.

Steve Dennis and Brian Phillips claimed most of the trophies between them, setting two new Veteran club records apiece. Dennis claimed the 25 mile shield with 51:55 whilst Phillips set a new 50 mile record with 1:47:21.

In the national British Best All Rounder competition, Brian was 18th in the country in the three distances 50 mile, 100 mile and 12 hour competition. This is a fantastic achievement and testament to his commitment to the sport.

In the two distance 50 and 100 mile competition, Dennis was 15th overall with Mike Anton 86th out of 324 entrants.

Stef Arcidiacono was awarded the Snow Hill Middlemarkers trophy and Roy Brown the Ajay Novice trophy. Roy has enthusiastically returned to cycling after a number of years away and is hoping to improve in 2009.

The club also has a discretionary award for outstanding services to the club and to cycling in general.

This year it was awarded by Val Baxendine to fellow life member Micky Robinson. Micky has been with the club since the fifties and has for many years been a stalwart in supporting the evening racing series.

Val has also been with the club since the early days and was a contemporary of Beryl Burton, coming third in the 1960 National Ladies Road Race Championships.

2009 promises to be a good year with members old and new looking to expand their racing experience and to continue their enjoyment of cycling.
