Anerley 50

Mr Dennis reports…..

Dennis’s winning streak came to an abrupt end at the weekend when he was stuffed for 1 minute and 21 seconds in the Anerley BC’c open 50 miles time trial on sunday morning.

In near-perfect conditions, it was clear that PB’s and possibly course records would be lowered. With two laps of the “super-fast” Broardbridge Heath-Crawley-Southwater course to be covered, Mike Anton was the 1st Grinnie to face the timekeeper. Leaving a trail through the morning mist, he was a little disappointed with his time of 2:02:25.

Mr Anton adds

No excuses here, I bumbled around the first lap and only when Clive Powell, my 5 minute man, passed me on the descent to the finish did I wake up to the perfect conditions

With “super Ted” a non starter, it was Steve Dennis’s turn next. After a cautious first lap as usual, he pulled out the stops on the second to record a PB time of 1:47:43. This time was fastest on the result board for some 25 minutes before Laurence Harding of the agisco-viner squad came in with 1:46:22.

Last EG rider on the road was Kevin Bashford, who after all his iron man training, obviously had the legs and just beat Mike by 12 seconds. This was a personal best for Kevin by over 4 minutes at this distance.

With an aggregate time of 5:52:21 we were the fastest team again.

1st Laurence Harding (Agiskoviner) 1:46:22 (course record)
