On 28th May 2022, EGCC took part in an Audax, right on the club’s doorstep.
Ben reports…
There were seven entries from the club for Martin Malins’ Audax event ‘AAA Milne’. This was a Winnie the Pooh themed ride with the food stop at Chuck Hatch, where folk can park up and wander down to Pooh Sticks Bridge.
The 100km route took us both north and south across the Ashdown Forest and included plenty of climbing. Unfortunately Greg had to drop out and after a phone call from home, Paul cut his ride short. So 5 riders were left to complete the event, Angela, Domie, Richard, Howard and Ben.
It was great to see Martin (ex club member) dishing out hot dogs at the food stop, having not seen him for a number of years. There was also a quick refuelling stop at The Pantry in Newick for cake and coffee, one to add to the growing list of cafe stops.
Overall a well organised event and well received by those who entered. The group of 5 survived various breakaways and attacks from Domie and Howard who kept the group from relaxing too much !
There are several Audax events in the coming months that would be suitable for club riders. Watch this space !
