The day dawned gusty with threatening black clouds just the day to leave the car at home and ride out to an event. As luck would have it I managed 3 miles before the sky’s opened and arrived at the HQ slightly damp.
Three East Grinstead riders faced the timekeeper the rest were on duty at the SCA 2 up.
Ted Boorman was off first into a stiff headwind up the first climb of Bletchingley High Street, followed by Andy Seltzer and last Paul Winkley.
The wind was by then gusting up to around 40mph which made bike handling interesting on the twisty descents.
All finished safely though with Ted recording 1:06:50 (16th), Andy a fine 59:01 [chapeau!] (7th) and Paul 1:05:31 (13th). The event was won by James Dear in 53:26.
Collectively East Grinstead won the team prize.
…now for the ride home
