Steve Dennis writes…
On Sunday it was over to East Sussex to ride the E.Sussex CA 2up Team Time Trial around a circuit based at Laughton. EG had three teams entered, the first pairing to go was Richard Woodward and Jon Carter. Jon still had heavy legs from the 10 the day before and said he struggled to hold Richard’s wheel.
They recorded 1hr 5 mins 21 seconds for the 24 mile circuit which was still faster than their “expected” time according to their age standard (1:06:15). Next up was father and son pairing of Kevin and Mark Bashford. They came home exactly four minutes quicker in 1:01:21. Mark then threw on his trainers and went for a 5 mile run as training for triathlon!
Steve Dennis teamed up again with Alan Macinnes to face the wind and showers to see if they could better their time (and position) of the previous years’ race. With Alan able to contribute a lot more to the pace this year, they knocked over 2 minutes off last years’ time in what was generally accepted as a harder day.
They were rewarded with the win by a few seconds from Lewes Wanderers pair Nick Dwyer and Rob Pelham who recorded 55:36. (Dennis/Macinnes – 55:32).
