Crawley CC sporting 14.8

Saturday was the best day of the year so far and a fine day for kicking off the 2008 racing season with the Crawley CC’s ‘Charlie Ayson Tribute 14.8 mile sporting TT.

Ted Boorman and myself were the only EG riders in a field of 63 with the Ingear squad making up 25% of the field. Of number 29, I was quite soon overtaken by Mat Zietz of Ingear which was only to be expected. I managed to catch one rider near the finish to record a time of 40:30. I was pleased with this as it was a 1:24 improvement on last years time.

Considering that I was nearly the only one riding a road bike I guess I could do better next time on the TT bike. Ted who started 5 minutes after me came in with a time of 40:49. The winner was Dan Davies of Pan B Racing with a superb, course record breaking time of 31:41 beating Pete Tadros’ record set last year by 29 seconds and earning him an extra £50.
