Formed in 1950 it still boasts two of its founding members. Initially a touring club, quickly the members found a love for racing, becoming the ‘premier’ club in Sussex. Many well known names have passed through its ranks, such as Brian Phillips, Steve Elms, Steve Dennis and of course Tour de France Yellow jersey wearer Sean Yates, most of whom are still members today. Sean with his brother Christian started their cycling careers with EGCC before becoming professional.
Many members past and present are gathered to celebrate the Clubs 60th anniversary in January 2011 at Ravenswood House near Sharpthorne. Here is a photo gallery put together especially for the evening.
The Club still enjoys success today with regular wins in time trial and road races. It still has a reputation for well run events and promotes four open races as well as club evening competition, together with regular social evenings and Sunday Clubruns.
